This daily writing prompt is a great coaching question. You’ve got one life, what are you going to spend it doing? What makes you feel in ‘flow’? Less dramatically, what little things can you do more of that bring joy and can be a ray of light when the going gets tough?
There are so many ways to approach this. My first instinct is to go to The Wheel of Life a tool that you can use to assess your life in a visual form, and identify areas of life where you may be out of balance or want to develop/devote more time to.
For me the area of life that is not where I want it to be at present is definitely Fun and Recreation. Like many people, I have a number of responsibilities and commitments to work, family, health and fitness, and personal development. I definitely need a little fun and recreation.
Creating a list of five things that define fun & recreation for me leads me to notice there is not enough music in my life. I want to listen to more music every day. How will I make time for this? Well, I am trying to spend less time online when I first get home from work before I get up the energy to make dinner – so I can remove 15 minutes online time ‘doom scrolling’ about war and petrol prices and make my way through my CD collection. How will I hold myself accountable and remove barriers? I will mark Music Time in my daily diary and pre-select the CD in the morning before I leave for work so I do not have to spend time thinking about it when I get home. I will review how this is working in 2 weeks time.
